One of the most visited places by many tourists in Cartagena de Indias is the Zenú Gold Museum.

Inside the halls of the museum are the most important cultural manifestations of the Zenú indigenous culture.

There you will find a complete collection of gold, fabrics of water and earth, the gold of the Caribbean plains, and some curious small pieces of human representation.

This collection is composed of 538 pieces of goldsmith’s work, 12 pieces of lithics, 61 pieces of ceramics, 6 pieces of bone and 48 pieces of shells.

While making the tour through the different rooms, observing this tradition, I listened to a pedagogical animation on the part of a historian, a linguist, a social communicator and a person of Zenú origin, who tell the story as part of their daily life.

In this museum I learned about the territory occupied by Zenos and the social aspects of this tradition, such as goldsmith work, economics, the importance of animals and regional biodiversity, themes that are reflected in the representations of fauna. Likewise, the importance of women, embodied in a masterful way in the multiple feminine representations, as the fundamental axis of social reproduction, is highlighted.

I carefully admired the collection of approximately 900 archaeological objects, divided into three rooms available to all visitors. Afterwards, I went to Calle Estanco del Aguardiente to visit La Presentación, Casa Museo Arte y Cultura.
The Zenú Gold Museum is part of the Gold Museums network of the Banco de la República and opened its doors to the public in 1982.

Through its halls a representative sample of the pre-Hispanic goldsmith societies is presented in what is the current Colombian territory, as well as their systems of thought, forms of social organization and adaptation to environmental conditions, particularly in the plains of the Colombian Caribbean.

The exhibitions were completely renovated in 2007, in the old house located on the Plaza de Bolívar, in the center of the walled city.
